This detached villa dating from 1878 was completely stripped and rebuilt. For the designers Alice Tazelaar and Erjan Borren, it was a complicated design because the premises were under the supervision of the Dutch National Service for Cultural Heritage. Building permission was given to construct a new conservatory, however, but it had to radiate the same atmosphere and have the same measurements as its predecessor. With its pastel shades and green colours, the kitchen diner created in the new conservatory has now become the lively focal point of the house. For this house, Vonder created a classic 3.5m-high library including panel doors and plinths. The lavender colour used in the library was inspired by a set of Chinese prints from the owners’ art collection. Modern ‘Library’ cupboards were fitted in the rest of the house, and the wardrobe doors in the bedroom are covered in silk. The cupboard doors in the playroom have striking knobs, designed by Vonder, in the shape of a nautilus shell.
