College Hotel

The College Hotel

This building, dating from 1894, is a former school - a role still evident in the wide staircases, 5-metre-high ceilings and gymnasium, which has since been converted into a restaurant. As many as possible historical features of this listed building, which was built in the same period as the famous Rijksmuseum situated nearby, have been retained. The new additions appear original but have been specially created for this renovation project. This building had to fulfil all the requirements of a modern hotel, but not at the expense of its history.
FG stijl’s design pays homage to the rich heritage of Holland. In the 40 bedrooms, the palettes of moss green and cream used in the restaurant and of orange, lavender and brown in the bar have been toned down to warm browns.

Vonder created the panelling for the hotel, including around 5km of double skirting boards. The reception desk has adjustable window shutters that regulate the amount of natural light. In the restaurant, wood-backed benches have been placed to create booths in which small groups can sit together for breakfast or dinner.
