MANORHOUSE PROJECTS
HISTORY

The classic Manorhouse forms the basis of Vonder’s collection. You could even say that the Manorhouse concept is historically the foundation for Western European (interior) architecture. These residences are known for their windows with curtain rods, their panel doors, blinds, chimneys, wainscots, panelling, elegant profiles and a hierarchical room arrangement. From the 17th century onwards, the regulations of renowned Italian architects such as Vincenzo Scamozzi were repeatedly implemented in The Netherlands, including in the Palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn, for instance. This palace was built for governor Willem III. He was at that time also the king of England, which meant that many famous Dutch architects worked there too. The first sliding windows which originated around that time were known as ‘Dutch windows’ by the English and ‘English windows’ by the Dutch. Owing to this cultural exchange of ideas, there are many similarities between English manor houses and Dutch land houses.
