“After the client approached me and expressed their desire to take the original design of this merchant’s house on the River IJssel to the ultimate level of perfection, it evolved into an open design process based on genuine commitment. The project focused on enhancing the living comfort and reinforcing the spatial cohesion. The aim was to strike a balance between functionality and feeling, from various perspectives." – Architect Kor Zijnstra.
In this historic location, this resulted in a floating display cabinet, a vast cloakroom (with room for an extensive shoe collection) and a tall room divider. The most distinctive element was the ‘de Kieuw’ cabinet (the name of which was inspired by fish gills): a dynamic design that breathes, responds and amazes, blurring the boundaries between an item of furniture and a work of art. Vonder subsequently realised the technically complex, carefully thought-out designs with precision, dedication and craftsmanship, creating a form of beauty that extends beyond the visible.”
Vonder made use of unique materials. The display cabinet in the hall, made of white Himacs, has an ultra-matt black finish. It is flanked by an oak wardrobe. The uprights of the room divider have a black MDF core with a white finish, and the shelves are made of oak. The ‘de Kieuw’ cabinet has an oak back and wavy panels on the front, covered with fabric made from recycled white denim.

Peter Kerkhof,
After the initial contact, ideally we invite the client to visit our showroom in Enter. These inspiring surroundings provide an impression of the quality and ambience we can achieve. Countless examples of types of wood and finishes are on display. We are happy to discuss the possibilities, and we can also produce a sketch of the existing and desired situation based on the client’s own input such as drawings and floor plans. In many cases, we can even provide a price estimate.
On request, we then develop a more detailed project plan, including a quotation. The architect or contractor is usually involved in this process. To make life easier for them, Vonder provides construction drawings. Once mutual agreement has been reached, we make the necessary further arrangements. We offer personal consultations to help you discover the true meaning of craftsmanship and customisation.
