The Vonder Factory

As a building, the Vonder factory exudes peace and restraint, with a sense of space, with weathered boards and sand-coloured flooring, with metal stairways and doors featuring wooden sections, with attention to craftsmanship and detail. It is based on a joint design by designer Hans Olthaar and founder Peter Kerkhof.

Hans Olthaar: “I know that the people at Vonder take great pride in their products - I have seen how they pack their finished articles in woollen blankets. I wanted the new philosophy to radiate out of these new premises and at the same time show how carefully they handle their products. We built two halls that were positioned slightly apart from each other, to enable daylight to spill into the middle of the factory.
Looking from the showroom, you can follow the complete industrial process and, as it were, experience the atmosphere. In the middle of the factory, we placed a fountain - just like in an Italian square, the place where people gather. The fountain has been designed to gush enough water so as to continuously overflow, with the water then flowing outside into a fountain pool where two sycamore trees stand representing Vonder’s origins, i.e. wood.”
